We analyzed conceptions of gender and
sexualities in the reports of the practices of
history teachers working in socio-educational
detention units. We selected two effective
teachers working in public schools
within Socio-Educational Service Centers
(CASEs), units of the Fundação de Atendimento
Socioeducativo (FUNASE) dedicated
to implementing the measure in the
State of Pernambuco. In dialogue with
Monteiro (2010), Junqueira (2013) and
Seffner (2013), we discuss the knowledge
and actions of these professionals in deprivation
of liberty. The interviews identified
the routine of violence suffered by adolescents
and young people. Different practices
of control, surveillance and declassification
configured cisheteronormative and
homophobic “locks” during hospitalization.
In this rigorous “management of the
borders of normality” (JUNQUEIRA,
2013), teachers did not “transport” gender
and sexuality content to history classes –
they already occupy these spaces, constituting
teaching and student knowledge.
