Abstract

Jason Arday is a sociologist and is currently the only black man full professor at the Faculty of Education at the prestigious University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom. He was born in a suburb of London, in 1985. Son of African parents, growing up in a poor family, at the age of 3 he was diagnosed with autism and global developmental delay. Jason also had hearing problems in one of his ears, which meant that he only started speaking when he was 11 years old, thanks to the fundamental support of his mother, who used different music to help him develop his language. Jason only learned to read and write when he was 18 years old. He graduated in Physical Education at the University of Surrey and then completed 2 master's degrees, one of which was followed by a PhD in Education at Liverpool John Moores University, in Liverpool, United Kingdom. In March 2023, at the age of 37, he became one of the youngest full professors in the history of Oxbridge, as the universities of Oxford and Cambridge are called in the United Kingdom, the two oldest, richest and most prestigious universities in that country.  Although still very young, Jason has already published several books and articles, has gained wide recognition for his work, both academically and for his charity fundraising work, and has quickly become one of the main references in the debate on race relations, racism, inequalities and education in the United Kingdom.
