This study arose from historical research proposed as a teaching tool in History Teaching at the Professor Luiz Alberto de Melo School, located in the quilombola community of Pau D’Arco, in Arapiraca – AL. The teacher of the subject suggested that students collect information about myths and legends of the region through a series of interviews with their elderly relatives. The results of the research were shared in History classes and contributed to expanding the students’ sense of belonging to the environment in which they lived, since they realized that their historical and geographical context was permeated by narratives from the subjective field. From this perspective, the reader is invited to travel the paths of popular imagination shared in history classes, valuing the knowledge and experiences of residents of Pau D’Arco.
