Abstract

This article reflects on the use of black newspapers from the post-abolition period as sources for school research, within the framework of anti-racist history teaching, based on collections available in the Hemeroteca Digital Brasileira of Biblioteca Nacional. It is situated within the post-abolition period, in dialogue with public history, history teaching, and studies on Digital Information and Communication Technologies applied to education. A quantitative survey of twelve periodicals from the black brazilian press was conducted. The aim was to identify the regions and periods of publication, hyperlinks, and potential topics that could be addressed in the classroom. The conclusion is that the HDB is a useful tool for school research, provided its use is informed by historiographical, pedagogical, and technological knowledge, and committed to the epistemological, ethical, and political issues constitutive of anti-racist history teaching.
