The Education through Competences and the Regional Issue in the Textbook História Regional do Rio Grande do Norte (2011)

Abstract

The so-called “education through competences”
has been one of the main pedagogical
concepts adopted by teachers
in a didactic situation and by educational
policies promoted by officials institutions
responsible for Education in Brazil,
at least in the last three decades. In
light of this situation, a specific question
is started: Does education through competences
contribute to the reflection on
the regional issue in the context of the
textbook on the Rio Grande do Norte’s
history? To better answer the question,
this article follows these steps: first, the
concept of regional history textbook is
discussed; second, it deals with the general
aspects of the work under analysis;
and, finally, the didactic-pedagogical
proposal chosen by the authors of the
analyzed textbook is intended and
whether or not it proposes a reflection
on the regional issue.
