This article discusses the work of a research group on Instagram: the Laboratory of Medieval Studies (LEME), more specifically, its nucleus at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). It inquires: is scientific projection on social networks capable of promoting a public construction of historical knowledge? Such debate is made of four stag-es: 1) theoretical discussion on the relationship between Public History and digital media; 2) description of the method adopted by LEME/UFPE, inserted in this interface; 3) analysis of the data provided by the Instagram’s “pro-fessional dashboard”; 4) reflection, from the reports of the students who participate in the project, based on the feed-back from the students who participate in the project, about the experience pro-cess of producing research which processes and products are developed mostly on digital media. As a result, this essay formulates a hypothesis: the work on so-cial networks would serve more for the formation of student-researchers than to the regular users of social media.
