This article analyses how the Rede Globo series Malhação has changed the media’s portrayal of schools. It is based on the idea of dividing history into different periods (Rosseto, 2009), understanding discourse (Lopes, 2002), and the concept of social representation (Moscovici, 2015) Stereotype (Lippmann, 2017; Pereira, 2002). The article uses “documentary analysis” (Bardin, 1977) to collect empirical data. This involves identifying primary sources such as Malhação’s twenty-seven seasons of CDs, promotional material, and technical files available on Grupo Globo websites. The article contributes to understanding and therefore overcoming negative stereotypes about the school universe represented in the media.
